NCHC Facilitator Policy - Selection and Compensation

This policy seeks to establish protocols around the selection and compensation of individuals leading NCHC programming, sponsored by the NCHC committees, and offered outside of the annual conference. This policy does not apply to workshops/training associated with the national conference or invited experts outside of the NCHC, as those facilitators are not compensated for their work under this policy. National Conference workshop/training facilitators do not get compensated at all. Invited experts outside of the NCHC get compensated at a market rate.

Some of the assumptions that underlie this policy include the following:

  1. Professionals will receive honoraria, payments made to give recognition for the services they perform to the organization, by leading NCHC programs outside of the annual conference.
  2. There should be relative equity in honoraria amounts paid across the various NCHC programs.
  3. Program facilitators should not receive honoraria from NCHC for work if they are already receiving compensation for that work from another source.
  4. NCHC Programming Committee will provide quality control of programming proposals to build the NCHC brand by reviewing the proposals and providing feedback/requests for reconsideration to the program proponents.
  5. As a part of the program proposal process, each facilitator will provide a brief bio providing relevant qualifications to lead the specific NCHC program.
  6. As a part of program proposal approval process, the NCHC Programming Committee approves the program facilitators for NCHC workshops for which participants pay a registration fee and makes change recommendations, if deemed necessary.
  7. The NCHC program facilitators should represent a diverse group, with representations from a large cross section of R1/Small/Private/2-Year institutions.
  8. The approval of program facilitators should not involve any conflict of interest (i.e., facilitators cannot approve themselves if they are being compensated);

Recommended Compensation*

$75/hour, up to $600 per day honorarium, for up to three facilitators, for up to three days plus expenses. Virtual programming honoraria should be prorated according to the number of hours offered and no expenses will be paid.

The above policy will be effective upon its approval and will remain in effect indefinitely until a new policy is accepted. The policy review should occur periodically.
